A rise, or lift - snatching up onto the ball of the foot.

Retro roll
A roll of the hoop which returns to the gymnast after travelling in any direction.

Ribbon
The ribbon is 6 metres long, made from silk, nylon or satin and attatched a stick by a swivel. It is generaly one of the most beautiful of the apparatus and greatly appreciated by the audience.

Ring Leap
Leap or jump in which the legs are in splits position with the front one strait and the back one bent. The back, head and arms are arched backwards towards the back foot, forming a 'ring' shape.

Rods
An apparatus in calisthenics used in group routines - seems very similar to the wands display apparatus in RSG.

Roll
To move along a surface by turning over and over. Hoops and balls can be rolled along the floor or on the body (eg: across the shoulders or down the back). Occasionally, clubs can be rolled as well.

Rope
Rhythmic apparutus rope made from hemp or synthetic material. The rope is usually 8-11mm in diameter and routines include skipping, throws, leaps, changes in speed and grip of the rope and jumps.

Rotation
Spinning of the hoop around hand, foot or other body part.
|

Routine
An arrangement of movements, combied according to the ability of the gymnast and the competitive rules, that a gymnast performs in competition.

RSG
Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics. A form of girls gymnastics, using small pieces of handheld apparatus and combining dance and gymnastic moves.
